Aloha All- this is Bob Richardson. For anyone interested we will be banding adult shearwater birds at Kamaole Beach Park III on Wed. evening April 7, from 6:30-8:30 PM. Every April the State DLNR bands adult shearwater birds at all of the nesting locations to get an estimate of the number of birds returning to Maui for the breading season. If you have a small flashlight with a red filter- please bring it with you. This is a lot of fun and also is great for children. If you have banded these birds before you may be allowed to assist.
Just plan on joining us for a relaxing evening under the stars. The returning of these sea birds is a ritual that pre-dates almost everything else in the history of Maui. We will be on the lawn at the south end of Kamaole Beach Park III. Just park on the road or at the Kihei Boat Ramp. If you park at the boat ramp just walk on the trail to Kamaole III and look for all of the activity.
