OK, we had the “grand opening” of the first segment Kihei Greenway back on July 29, but no one has been able to use it to date, as it’s stiil closed. The middle portion of this segment is involved in the roundabout construction , scheduled for completion August 2012 (but maybe sooner,) so maybe we’ll have a picturesque biking path extending about one mile to use next fall.

IMG_0228.JPGHow about extending this short segment both northbound and southbound so a bike rider can go places in Kihei without reverting to the challanging Highway or S Kihei Road? Presently the southmost sement ends at Lipoa, just a block from the regional park. Along the makai side of the park is a flat hard packed dirst path extending to Waipuilani. Why did just put down an asphallt stip here to extend safe cycling to the Hope Chapel?
