After their very successful flood forum just before Thanksgiving, which KCA cosponsered, the Clean Water Committee is now seeking a pilot project as a way to determine what can help mitigate the seasonal flooding in Kihei. UPDATE:Full County Council  hearing on this proposed ban on 1/20/12  resulted in unamimous approval. The second and final reading is expected soon. Maui County Council is deliberating a complete ban on alcohol consumption at both Kalama and adjoing Cove Parks.  KCA has not taken a position on this matter, but is interested in hearing from the membership to [...]

UPDATE: 1/15/12. The dead tree has been replaced by the Parks Dept. with a   a Noni-Indian Mulberry, which with proper care could grow to twenty feet from the several inches it is now. It sits among the original two Milos that seem to be growing well. The KCA apprciates the Administraiton’s rectification of this situation. Mahalo. UPDATE 12/26/11 [...]

When the County Council’s Planning Committee,  chaired by Kihei’s own Don Couch, announced they would be discussing, “Walkable & Livable Communities,” as well as “Repetitive loss of Properties; Floodplain Management Plan,” at their afternoon meeting on December 12, we felt Kihei was very interested, and sent a representative to address  & listen to the committee. Right by the entrance to the new Kihei Community Park, where Liloa ends at intersection of Halekuai, vehicles driving south on Liloa had a full stop, before they could proceed into the park entrance after crossing over Halekuai. Problem was the post holding the stop sign was apparently run down countless times, leaving  just roadway [...]
